Some state of the union on Charlie, since we're moving and stuff is happening, and it's been forever since I've talked about how Charlie thinks and works, etc.

So, Charlie did some extreeeemly desperate things at the homecoming dance. I am just going to link the relevant thread here, for as long as it exists, it is a testament to how Charlie views life during the games. Mostly as something to be endured, and not something that can be dealt with. That said, Charlie is coping incredibly poorly in general with the aftermath of the game.

He feels worse about dealing with Nora then he did with Tavi--not only did Tavi encourage it, he helped for as long as he could. But Nora was a little too close to Old Yeller. And Tavi even absolved him in the end. Nora--just trauma there. It also brought Charlie back to his first Trickster game, but without the ostracizing. I can't say if he'll do something like that in a game or not, the next time he has the chance, but it will be the third time, and if it's during a Trickster game, there may be some pause and thought.

He didn't break down until after the end, but I imagine he went and ran around the lake, and ran until he couldn't run anymore, and then went back to Cygnus and slept. He's stopped cooking for Cygnus, he's likely stopped carrying his knife with him (but not the gun, because being unarmed in Sabra is stupid) and is likely mostly on autopilot right now. He will most likely react neutrally to nothing if confronted about what he did at the game.

Also, it has been 11 memories since Charlie had none. Charlie is kind of now set crosswise to who he was at the end of the series of Life, and a little closer to the beginning. Though he has some things worked out that beginning of series Charlie doesn't, he also has that whole "survive in games or else" thing going for him, which puts him closer to square one from when he got out of jail then he otherwise would be. But having to keep it together for the new people gives him something to focus around, and thus, equilibrium is kept as much as it can be in this sort of game.

...oh right derp derp GOING TO BE AT A CON FROM FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY and going to a c concert tonight/packing and prep tomorrow/back Monday night. The con usually has free wifi in the convention center so I shall be popping on at random intervals but I am expecting to be kidnapped regularly.

4. Reading the Path To Zen in solitary. (A fake book which Charlie tends to quote a lot--there seems to be a tape series and a website too, but they never release them besides a narrator reading it in the show.)

- what zen is (relevent quotes here)
- that he wasn't only in jail but in solitary for a long time
-- this is extrapolated! From the looks of things, he didn't get the book until about two three years into his prison stay? HE WAS ANGRY FOR A VERY LONG TIME EVEN IF HE HAD A KIND OF DIRECTION AFTER JAIL. But he was also Not Over some things afterwards, so I'm guessing he got it in 1998, after his divorce was finalized.
- maybe some of his thoughts on the jail/outside of things? he looks very intense in the one shot of the book reading they show.

5. "Eating cupcakes" (ie, cruising the ladies on the bus.) (Episode 2: Tear Asunder)

- he was on the bus because his car is dead. someone named Ted drove over it with a tractor!
- The ladies names were Gina and Tina.
- They visit latter in the evening! And for a few evenings after!
- These were far from the first ladies that came over after his release! I can't find my first dvd tho, but I think they're the last that he intentionally hits on for just himself.

After his new memories, he's now leaning twords a more philosophical viewpoint which I will sort into something more like an essay later, and sort of wants to have sex (...with a woman, as Charlie's primary preference is definitely the ladies) to see if it's still nice, but he probably isn't going to try very hard besides amping the flirting a bit, due to the fact that 1. lol cygnus, 2. most of the ladies do not fit his sexual tastes. He sort of likes woman with an air of maturity, a pretty look and strong will, who are mostly hetrosexual and probably he likes them not taken, his ex aside.

I now kind of want to have Charlie give the Talk to someone/everyone, though. Also to end on a slightly shallow note, I kind of love this article's photoshoot. :|a
